Bianca Balti

Bianca Balti is rumored to become the new VS angel, after the presumed retirement of Gisele Bundchen in 2007. The Italian supermodel appeared in the 2005 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show and in the catalogues.

Bianca Balti never intended to become an international supermodel. She was a full-time web-design student when she first decided to strut her stuff on the catwalk in order to finance her spring break. "For one month, I wanted some work to pay for my holidays," Bianca laughs. "I did not get to go." Balti was actually turned away by modeling agencies for being average looking with the common model looks. Bianca sticks out her tongue:




But she kept at it and did not give up.... Balti was first noticed, not on the ramp or in modeling tryouts, but in a supermarket (of all places) where she was doing odd jobs to finance her studies. Bruno Paulette, a scout of Modelschule, liked her looks and body language and booked Bianca Balti for the cover of L'Officiel which was shot by Alexi Lubomirski. Her following top-class campaigns were for Roberto Cavalli, Donna Karan, Dolce & Gabbana, Missoni, Guess and Anna Molinari.

In 2004 Bianca Balti began appearing in high-profile ready-to-wear shows for Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Emanuel Ungaro, Hermes, Valentino, Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, and many others. Balti's gorgeous face also graced the covers of glossy publications such as L'Officiel, Numero and Amica. Bianca is perfectly at ease working in little more than her underwear, as evidenced by her sensational appearance in the 2005 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

2006 was another banner year for Bianca, as she appeared in shows for more A-list designers, such as Bill Blass, Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Givenchy, Gucci, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, and Stella McCartney.




Bianca isn’t just a model; she’s also a burgeoning designer. “I have already done some clothes for me,” she says gleefully. “I think I will have a future in this industry.”

She also is highly in demand for the runway. Since the Spring/Summer fashion shows 2005 she has appeared in every season's shows for designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Miuccia Prada and Donatella Versace among other prominent designers.

Although Bianca started her modeling career in Italy she is now permanently based in New York. Like so many of her supermodel friends, Bianca Balti prefers to hang out in simple jeans and T-shirts.

From the world of fashion Balti stepped briefly into the movie world by acting in the movie Go Go Tales, where she enacted the role of a stripper!

Amazingly the 23-year old became pregnant recently and chose to keep her baby daughter, named Matilda! Explaining her choice Bianca says, "I do not think ever before doing things! I am happy and I have no regret, but certainly I did not think that I would become a mother at age 23. Matilda was the 'fruit of my passion' and I am happy with her. "

Bianca Balti does not believe that becoming pregnant and giving birth affects her career: "I became a model knowing that sooner or later this career will end, if not today, tomorrow. Besides, there's always the fear that everything will end in this work, even after a season in which you were the best."
