Selma Blair told WWD that she enjoys shopping at the new Gap 1969 Jeans Shop on Robertson Boulevard in LA because, "I've always been kind of androgynous as a look, so the boyfriend styles over skinny jeans works perfectly."

But the actress from such movies as Cruel Intentions, Legally Blonde, Pretty Persuasion, The Sweetest Thing, and Hellboy, is being hard on herself. Left, Selma Blair wears a Chanel Pre-Fall 2008 dress at the Chanel Fine Jewelry Event in New York. And right, Selma looks very feminine and pretty in a Versace Spring 2009 one-shouldered mini dress, covered in embroidered pink and silver rhinestones, as she attends an exhibition "Between Eternity and History: 1884-2009" in Rome, Italy, last year.
Selma Blair in 2004 Flaunt magazine. The Michigan born actress will turn 38 this June and though she retains her good looks, Blair says it takes a lot of effort for that to happen. "I'm not good getting my picture taken out of context. It takes a village to get this girl together," she laughs. "No one wants a picture of me fresh faced. That's like an oxymoron. There's no such thing as fresh faced. That's a young girls' game."
In 2002 Selma Blair told USA Today: "I think the toughest part [of being in Hollywood] I found is trying to break the stereotype that you can't still sexy and beautiful after the age of 19. I'm flatchested, I'm short, I'm brunette, I have droopy eyes, and so people have a hard time casting me as a 'beauty'. That's why I'm honest about my age."

Originally studying to be a photographer, Selma got her BFA in Photography from the University of Michigan in 1994, but while living in New York: "I got my start in an acting class which taught the Stella Adler technique. An agent came in, discovered me and sent me out."

She was criticized unfairly for losing a lot of weight between Cruel Intentions and Legally Blonde: "They told me I looked unhealthy. They compared me to Calista Flockhart. It was really devastating," says Blair. "I've never been anything but a flat-chested little girl."
For the TV show Kath & Kim it was said that Selma was required to put on 20 pounds. But Blair told the LA Times: "I let myself go a little. I didn't get fat, because that would sound wrong. I'm never going to be a big girl -- I'm just a little floppy. It's hard going to the gym. It hurts. And it hurts when you don't see results. There's mirrors all over the gym!"![]()
Selma was married to musician Ahmet Zappa between 2004 and 2006 and her close companion today is a one-eyed Jack Russell mutt appropriately named Wink. "I adopted her from the Lange Foundation that has the most amazing misfit dogs in the world. They're completely the cutest and sweetest dogs, and so, I have Wink and she's playful and wonderful and she saved me from myself many times."
Selma did one of the earliest fake lesbian kissing scenes on film with her friend Sarah Michelle Gellar in Cruel Intentions. She learned horseback riding at a girls camp and quit a 26-year smoking habit in 2008. In public, Blair tries to avoid the paparazzi because: "My career's not in a place like where I feel I'm really worthy of people having to look at my face every day. So I'd like to kind of stay a little low-key until I've earned it."
